Farmers & Distillers is the latest and most diverse restaurant brought to you by our restaurateurs, Mike Vucurevich and Dan Simons, and the more than 47,000 farmers that make up North Dakota Farmers Union, our farmer-owners led by Mark Watne. We opened Founding Farmers and Farmers Fishers Bakers because we wanted to connect diners more closely to the food source, whether by geography or knowledge. At Farmers & Distillers, the tradition continues and we are raising our game by shortening the food supply chain, increasing demand, and getting American family-farmed products closer to the plate and the glass. Whether it’s the grain in our bread, the barley in our booze, or the dairy in our butter, the stronger the farmer, the better the food, and the tastier the drink.

Through the Eyes of the Founding Farmer

George Washington’s American industriousness and keen eye for opportunity are built into the very foundation of this country and into every aspect of Farmers & Distillers. Using President Washington as our true north we kept asking ourselves, “What would George do?” be it with flavor, cooking technique, or atmosphere. At Farmers & Distillers, we are taking you on a diverse culinary journey as we envision he must’ve experienced, with dishes showcasing his well-documented passions for European cooking techniques and pioneering American flavors. President Washington’s approach to leveraging the lands and water at his beloved estate, Mount Vernon, as well as the skills and abilities of those around him, directed us to pay homage to our Mt Vernon Square neighborhood, including the immigrant settlers of yesterday and the Chinatown neighborhood of today. This amazing journey has led the way to our unique offerings that we’re excited to share with you.

The Spirit of Our Drinks

Not only was our first president a farmer, George Washington started the largest distillery in America at the turn of the 18th century. Farmers & Distillers celebrates this legacy with the opening of its own distillery, Founding Spirits, led by Beverage Director Jon Arroyo.

As “distillers,” we are excited to craft our own spirits, in-house, using age-old techniques mixed with modern-day expertise.

Farmers & Distillers features signature cocktails with house-made mixers and syrups, using the freshest ingredients, and wide variety of all natural non-alcoholic beverages. Like its sister restaurants, Farmers & Distillers will also serve Founding Farmers’ proprietary line of spirits, including Founding Farmers Rye Whisky, Founding Farmers Gin, and Farm Blend Pisco, and Farmers Restaurant Group’s proprietary wines including New York Vines White and Virginia Vines Rosé. Of course, our draught beers are brewed in the DMV area.
