Farmers & Distillers is DC’s Best New American Restaurant

Farmers & Distillers wins Best New American Restaurant in Washington City Paper DC’s Best Readers Pick. Sibling to the ever-popular Founding Farmers DC, which was awarded DC’s Best Downtown Lunch and Best Bloody Mary, we are delighted Farmers & Distillers was chosen directly by the readers who live, work, and dine in the DC metro area as the DMV’s favorite New American Restaurant.

Inspired by our first president, our diverse menu has a wide range of classic American dishes from our Baby Macs, Shake & Fries to F&D Shrimp & Grits to Chicken-Fried Steak & Distillers Donut. We also have other choices inspired by nearby Chinatown and the history of our location in Mt Vernon Square that give our guests a whole lot more tasty options.

Farmers & Distillers houses a micro-batch distillery you can see from our bar, Founding Spirits, where we are always busy distilling our award-winning craft vodka, American whiskey, and many other fine spirits made of grains and botanicals sourced from American family farms. Our craft cocktail program features our small-batch spirits and includes a great gathering of American-inspired drinks, such as the Constitution Royale, How Jefferson Woulda Liked It, and our Mt Vernon Cocktail.

So, whether you are looking for a full meal or just a great drink, stop by Farmers & Distillers to see what your neighbors are calling DC’s Best New American Restaurant. If possible, we recommend making a reservation.

Joining Taste of the Nation to End Childhood Hunger

On April 9th, Farmers & Distillers and Founding Spirits attended Taste of the Nation at the National Building Museum in downtown DC.

Joining 80 area restaurants, Farmers & Distillers served one of our guest favorites, our delicious Crunchy Ahi Tuna Bites. Founding Spirits was in the event VIP Lounge mixing and serving our Suffering Candidate, a smoky, yet refreshing craft cocktail made with our Founding Farmers Rye Whisky and mingled with the lighter botanical notes of our Founding Farmers Gin.

Taste of the Nation is the culinary event organized by Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign that highlights the nation’s finest talent in the food and drink industry, all united under one roof for one cause: ending childhood hunger.

In the U.S., one in six children struggle with hunger. No Kid Hungry unites teachers, chefs, community leaders, parents, lawmakers, and CEOs to help solve childhood hunger. They work to connect kids in need with nutritious food, including teaching families to learn how to cook healthy, affordable meals.

No Kid Hungry has fed 775 million meals to children, a remarkable milestone made possible from fundraising events like Taste of the Nation.

For those interested, they always welcome individual donations too.

Chocolate Cherry Treats for Our Cherry Blossom Lovers

Join Farmers Fishers Bakers and Farmers & Distillers to celebrate DC’s famous cherry blossoms.

Every year, the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), highlights the area’s vibrant and diverse restaurant scene for the over 1.5 million visitors to the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The Cherry Picks Restaurant Program is now in its 16th year.

This festival celebrates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Japan to the U.S. that bring beautiful blooms to DC’s Tidal Basin every spring. We are joining the celebration with some cherries of our own.

Our pastry team has outdone themselves with a Chocolate Cherry Pie with White Chocolate Vanilla Sauce. The dessert will be available throughout the festival at Farmers Fishers Bakers and Farmers & Distillers.

This year’s festival runs from March 20-April 15. Participating restaurants in the Cherry Picks program will highlight items from their seasonal, springtime menus.

Pink Ties & Special Chocolate Cherry Treats

Farmers & Distillers joined more than 800 spring revelers at the annual Pink Tie Party to celebrate the start of DC’s National Cherry Blossom Festival. This evening of food and fun is often considered to be the city’s most festive kick-off to spring.

With offerings from nearly 20 local restaurants and bars, Farmers & Distillers showcased a special, not-even-on-our-menu treat, the delicious and decadent Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake with Vanilla Cream Drizzle. Guests also enjoyed an open bar, Taiko drummers from Japan, and a silent auction.

The annual National Cherry Blossom Festival, which is celebrated over a four-week period, welcomes more than 1.5 million visitors to our nation’s capital. The Pink Tie Party is a fundraiser to support the beauty of nature and international friendship through the famous annual festival, as well as year-round programs, events, and education initiatives that enhance our environment, showcase arts and culture, and build community spirit.

Mixing & Bubbling Our Craft Vodka at Turn Up the Heat

Farmers & Distillers joined more than 50 female chefs and mixologists in downtown DC for Turn Up the Heat, a night of tastings for one important cause, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance.

Our team, led by bartender Carly Barsalou, mixed and served one of our favorite Farmers & Distillers cocktails featuring our very own craft vodka. Bubbles & Berries combines our Founding Spirits Vodka with blackberry, lemon, cognac, Curaçao, and Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut. This slightly bubbly craft cocktail is light, a bit sweet, and very refreshing.

With over 400 attendees, Turn Up the Heat is a unique event showcasing women mixologists and chefs in the DC region. The gala proceeds help fund groundbreaking ovarian cancer private research grants, advocacy efforts, and support programs for patients and their families affected by this disease.

Every 24 minutes a woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the U.S. The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance is the leading ovarian cancer research, advocacy, and patient support organization in the world. They are the largest, non-government funder of ovarian cancer research. They are the primary voice for the ovarian cancer community on Capitol Hill and beyond. They also direct a Woman to Woman support program, which pairs newly diagnosed patients with trained survivor volunteers.

Founding Spirits Pours Our Craft Vodka & More at the DC Distillers Festival

Founding Spirits, our small-batch distillery located in the heart of Farmers & Distillers, joined the party at the DC Distillers Festival this past weekend.

This curated, three-session, all-day, all-night event featured 1920’s jazz bands and a burlesque show. Gatsby-era costumes were encouraged and plentiful in this speakeasy environment. Guests sampled over 60 craft spirits to their heart’s content from over 20 craft distillers, including our very own DC-based distillery, Founding Spirits.

We poured samples of our spirits, including our craft vodka, and mixed three of our signature craft cocktails, including: Buck’s Blood Orange, pictured above, (Founding Spirits Vodka, lemon, ginger, honey, aperol); Boulevardier (Founding Spirits American Whiskey, Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, campari); and our Amaro Daiquiri (Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, Founding Farmers Rye Whisky, orgeat, lime).

This one of a kind annual event was held at the Long View Gallery in downtown DC. The day and night included a lot of mingling and chatting, tasting and relaxing, and even some dancing. We were delighted to be a part of this year’s party.

Farmers & Distillers Mixes Spirits to Raise Funds for St. Jude

Last night, Farmers & Distillers joined 600 guests and dozens of local restaurants at the 19th annual St. Jude Gourmet Gala at the National Building Museum in downtown Washington, D.C.

Our participation included tastes from our very own DC distillery, Founding Spirits. Managing Partner, Beverage & Distillery, Jon Arroyo and Distillery Manager Bob VanLancker served one of our favorites, How Jefferson Woulda Liked It, which combines our Founding Farmers Rye Whisky and Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro with lemon, brandied cherry, and an orange slice.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has hosted this fundraising event at the National Building Museum for ten years running. The lively evening features restaurant and cocktail tastings from DC’s top restaurants, a rousing live auction, and a premiere silent auction. Last year’s event raised over $1.16M for the kids of St. Jude.

Located in Memphis, TN, the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases, including cancer, through groundbreaking research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of Founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay.
