Farmers & Distillers Supports No Kid Hungry

This week, our Farmers & Distillers team once again joined forces with some of DC’s finest chefs, bartenders, and sommeliers at the Taste of the Nation event, all with one common mission: to support No Kid Hungry and their workto end childhood hunger in America.

Each year, Taste of the Nation hosts fundraising events across the U.S. to raise much-needed support to help ensure that our nation’s children get the healthy food and nutrition they ought to, every day. We were honored to represent our scratch-made, farmer-owned food and drink concept that is Farmers & Distillers at the National Building Museum for this year’s festivities.

Chef Nick and Chef Eric (pictured) served up a house favorite, our Good All Green salad with a couple special additions: a tasty, Farmers feta cheese and some plancha-spiced chicken. Event goers followed the delicious aroma of our chef’s plancha-spiced chicken and were delighted with the added layer of flavor it gave our Good All Green salad of mixed greens, broccolini, avocado, green apple, green beans, and toasted seeds, topped with a fresh lemon vinaigrette. Our special, salty Farmers cheese sprinkled on top was a brined Feta imported directly from Greece just for the event. Our salad, which was gluten-free and modified on the spot for dairy-free and vegetarian revelers, was a big hit… and so was our table. Our chefs loved serving all of the guests who returned for more.

For those who enjoyed our offering at DC’s Taste of the Nation, come by Farmers & Distillers for another taste, as our Good All Green salad is available every day on our Lunch & Dinner menu. Enjoy it as is in the restaurant or add herb chicken, steak, salmon, tuna, shrimp, or scallops to your liking. As always, we recommend making a reservation.

A special night of tasting and fun was had by all. Great cause and great food & drink. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Calling All Campari Lovers, Negroni Week is Here

June 4th marks the start of a very special season for Campari lovers: Negroni Week.

Across Farmers Restaurant Group, we love this annual opportunity to serve delicious cocktails for a cause. This year’s benefit is No Kid Hungry, which is a movement of teachers, chefs, community leaders, parents, lawmakers, and CEOs with one shared belief: No kid in America should go hungry.

We are also pretty psyched to wow Negroni lovers, as well as newbies to the Negroni scene, with a few of our spins on this classic cocktail. While a traditional Negroni is made with gin, a bitter aperitif (such as Campari), sweet vermouth, and finished with an orange twist, our Managing Partner, Beverage & Distillery Jon Arroyo, has come up with some very special handcrafted alternatives.

Our Negroni cocktails use our very own Founding Spirits, including Gold Medal Winner Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro. We will be serving three Negroni-inspired craft cocktails from June 4-10 at Founding Farmers, Farmers & Distillers, and Farmers Fishers Bakers:

Negroni Sour is a smooth and creamy mix of our Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, Founding Farmers Gin, Campari, lemon, orange, and egg white.

Negroni Swizzle is a delightful mix of Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, Founding Farmers Gin, Campari, cinnamon, and lemon.

The Silent Negroni includes Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, Mezcal El Silencio Espadin, Campari, and Pamplemousse Rose.

If this trio of taste isn’t enough to get you out and about, perhaps and you can have a Negroni Week party of your own and order some of our award-winning Founding Spirits online. Sponsor Imbibe Magazine has lots of recipes online and even Negroni week t-shirts to order.

Negroni Week is an annual international fundraiser put on by Imbibe magazine and Campari. To date, they have collectively raised nearly $1.5 million for charitable causes. No Kid Hungry is ending childhood hunger through effective programs that provide kids with the food they need.

Joining Taste of the Nation to End Childhood Hunger

On April 9th, Farmers & Distillers and Founding Spirits attended Taste of the Nation at the National Building Museum in downtown DC.

Joining 80 area restaurants, Farmers & Distillers served one of our guest favorites, our delicious Crunchy Ahi Tuna Bites. Founding Spirits was in the event VIP Lounge mixing and serving our Suffering Candidate, a smoky, yet refreshing craft cocktail made with our Founding Farmers Rye Whisky and mingled with the lighter botanical notes of our Founding Farmers Gin.

Taste of the Nation is the culinary event organized by Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign that highlights the nation’s finest talent in the food and drink industry, all united under one roof for one cause: ending childhood hunger.

In the U.S., one in six children struggle with hunger. No Kid Hungry unites teachers, chefs, community leaders, parents, lawmakers, and CEOs to help solve childhood hunger. They work to connect kids in need with nutritious food, including teaching families to learn how to cook healthy, affordable meals.

No Kid Hungry has fed 775 million meals to children, a remarkable milestone made possible from fundraising events like Taste of the Nation.

For those interested, they always welcome individual donations too.
