CAPS Hour at Farmers & Distillers

Farmers & Distillers is bringing back our famous CAPS Hour* to unleash our Washington Capitals gameday excitement. A quick walk to the Capital One Arena, stop by two hours before home games and join us for some serious Caps spirit.

This week, our CAPS Hour celebrators got a visit from the Official Mascot of the Washington Capitals, Slapshot. He even jumped behind the bar to make a cocktail, took a tour with Distillery Manager, Bob VanLancker (pictured here with Slapshot), and helped us select the lucky winners for our giveaways, which included free Caps tickets, Ovi-themed gifts, including an authentic Ovechkin jersey and bobblehead, other Caps swag, and restaurant gift cards.

Since our distillery, Founding Spirits, is the Official Distillery of Caps Arena, Farmers & Distillers is THE place to be for your pre- and post-game festivities. We will be serving cocktails made with Cap One’s official Founding Spirits Vodka and our brand-new Founding Spirits Dry Gin.

Try our Founding Spirits Rock the Red cocktail specially made with DC’s #1 local vodka, lime, raspberry, ginger, bitters, and a splash of soda. Other CAPS Hour drink specials include our expertly made $8 Highballs, craft draft beers for $6, and glasses of red or white wine or bubbles for $5. All can be enjoyed with some of our favorite bar bites, including Sticky Pork Riblets, Pan-Fried Dumplings, Garlic Black Pepper Wings, and more.

If you can’t get to Farmers & Distillers, you can still get a taste of the official Capital One Arena spirits by ordering cocktails made with Founding Spirits at the arena, and at other bars and restaurants across the city. Every day, we’re happy to know more and more DC Fans Drink DC Spirits.

*Please Note: We won’t be hosting CAPS Hour during our Saturday & Sunday brunch, between 9am–2pm.

Fighting for a Great Cause

Our Farmers & Distillers team were thrilled to join the 16th Annual Capital Food Fight last night at The Anthem at DC’s popular Wharf Street complex.

Capital Food Fight is a true DC-centric industry event presented by DC Central Kitchen and hosted by renowned Chef, Event Founder & Chair, José Andrés. Celebrity chefs, Carla Hall and Spike Mendelsohn, emceed along with DC’s popular radio personalities, Tommy McFly and Kelli Collis, of The Tommy Show

Farmers & Distillers and Founding Spirits were featured during the evening’s festivities. José Andrés brought our Founding Spirits American Whiskey onstage for a spirited taste and toast with two of our Washington Nationals hometown heroes, Ryan Zimmerman and Dave Martinez, fresh off their World Series win. We provided tastings of our award-winning spirits, including DC’s #1 Vodka. The evening’s auction included a donated dinner for four at Farmers & Distillers and a private Tour & Tasting at our in-house distillery, Founding Spirits. We also served up our signature, plant-based IMPOSSIBLE Chorizo Taco with Pumpkin Pico de Gallo and Habanero-Green Tomato Salsa.

Other food for the event came courtesy of the district’s best culinary teams from over 80 local restaurants. Four top DC chefs – Marcelle Afram/Bluejacket, Kyoo Eom/Dirty Habit, Adam Greenberg/Coconut Club, and Johanna Hellrigl/Doi Moi – went head-to-head in an all-or-nothing battle for charity. Marcelle Afram took home the top prize, which was awarded by some of the culinary world’s top players: Tom Colicchio, Andrew Zimmern, and Maneet Chauhan. The panel of judges for the main event was rounded out by Ryan Zimmerman.

Raising over $815,000 for DC Central Kitchen, this year’s Capital Food Fight will contribute to helping this DC nonprofit in their mission to combat hunger and poverty, every day. Through hands-on culinary job training & job creation, and outreach programs, such as serving scratch-made meals to DC schoolchildren, delivering fresh and affordable produce to local stores where residents don’t have access to supermarkets, and operating an on-site, fast-casual cafe, DC Central Kitchen is a shining star in our nation’s capital.

In addition to supporting Capital Food Fight year after year, Farmers Restaurant Group provides ongoing support to DC Central Kitchen. Co-owner Dan Simons teaches a quarterly class on personal productivity within their culinary job training program. We regularly support their graduates as interns in our kitchens, some of whom we’ve hired to work for us. Our company truck, which transports supplies directly to our restaurants from farms in the Midwest, also brings food for DC Central Kitchen’s community meals program, providing 5,000 healthy meals to those in need at our local area shelters, after-school programs, and rehabilitation centers, every day.

*Our team, featuring chefs Richard Torres & Eric Ruiz, and marketing team members, Julie Sharkey, Emily Hough & Lexi Young, showed up to fight the good fight.

Farmers & Distillers Proud to Sponsor our National Military Youth of the Year!

We were thrilled to welcome and celebrate a group of inspiring teens up for the 2019 National Military Youth of the Year award. The finalists gathered in our nation’s capital recently to attend the annual Youth of the Year gala held this year at the National Press Club on 14th St NW.

Sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Youth of the Year program honors and recognizes outstanding teens from across the U.S. who demonstrate leadership, service, and academic excellence, serving as role models and inspiration for other youth in their communities and beyond.

Prior to the gala & ceremony, the finalists spent a few days exploring our fair city and dropped by Farmers & Distillers for dinner. We treated them to a delicious three-course meal, hitting all of our Farmers & Distillers favorites, including: a first course of our Farmers Salad. Second course was a choice of our: Southern Fried Chicken & Glazed Donut, Turkey & Gravy, FS Vodka & Pesto Shrimp Bucatini, Beer Can Roasted Chicken, Cauliflower Steak, or our Twice-cooked Beef Tenderloin. And we didn’t forget dessert. We knew these amazing teens would love our famous Farmers Donuts.

The ceremony was full of inspiring and moving moments, with Dasia B. receiving the prestigious honor of being named 2019’s National Military Youth of the Year as a member of the Boys & Girls Club at the NSA Norfolk Naval Shipyard Youth Center, located just outside of DC in Norfolk, VA.

For over 70 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Youth of the Year program has honored our nation’s most awe-inspiring youth on their path to lead, succeed, and inspire. In addition to Dasia’s win, Sabrina M. was named 2019 Youth of the Year. Hailing from the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco, Sabrina will serve as the Boys & Girls Club youth ambassador and as a voice for our nation’s young people.

We’re proud of these two remarkable young women and of all the amazing teens who were part of this year’s event. We know they will go on to do GREAT things.

Classic Cocktailing for a Cause

Help us celebrate the 100th anniversary of a truly iconic Italian cocktail, the Negroni, during Negroni Week from June 24th – June 30th. Dating back to 1919 when Count Camillo Negroni invented the classic Negroni cocktail, it has since become a mainstay on every great bartender’s menu of guest favorites.

As distillers and craft cocktail connoisseurs, our take on the Negroni is something very special. Taste for yourself as Farmers & Distillers participates in DC’s annual Negroni Week. We will be serving several handcrafted Negroni cocktails (specially priced at just $13 each) made with our award-winning Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro:

  • Negroni Sour made with our Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, Founding Farmers Gin, Campari, lemon, orange, and egg white
  • Negroni Spritz made with Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, aperol, lemon, sparkling cava, and jerk soda
  • The Classic made with Founding Spirits Arroyo’s “Never Bitter” Amaro, Campari, and gin

Negroni Week was launched in 2013 by Imbibe Magazine and Campari to pay homage to the refreshing, unique, Negroni cocktail and raise money for global charities, Negroni Week has proved so successful, it has raised approximately $2 million to date for various charities worldwide and has grown from 120 industry participants to almost 10,000 partners around the globe.

Farmers & Distillers is participating in Negroni Week, along with our downtown DC sibling restaurants, Founding Farmers DC and Farmers Fishers Bakers, and donating a portion of our weeklong event proceeds to No Kid Hungry. As longtime supporters of No Kid Hungry, we’re proud to continue to support their efforts to end childhood hunger.

Join us June 24th through June 30th for Negroni Week, and support No Kid Hungry by enjoying one of our specially crafted Negroni cocktails. It’s that simple.

Make a reservation for dinner to make your Negroni Week even better. Or book a Tour & Tasting for a sneak peak behind the scenes of our Founding Spirits distillery, right here at Farmers & Distillers.
